France Wide Web Minitel is Shutdown

Online banking, online booking and many more online things spread around the world because of internet. But would you believe, in 1978 there’s a network for online things in France?  It is called France-Wide-Web and also called “Minitel”.

In earlier days, the purpose of this Minitel is to do banking, shopping, connect to air and rail service departments and also connect with cable TV services etc in online by using a keyboard and monitor. This was very successful at that time and this was the best communication network before originate internet.  Monitor, key board, modem and the telephone connection are the main part of Minitel network. Transaction media is telephone lines and only “Text” will be visible in the monitor. Once you ordered a Minitel system it comes with the telephone and connection.

Best features of this Minitel,

• Order the needed things from shopping store.
• Booked the air and train tickets.
• Find any telephone number from online telephone directory.
• Do online banking.
• Credit card payments.
• Email box

I think you can’t imagine this kind of facilities in 1978, but Frenchmen got the chance to do work from online and in 1982 whole country covered by this Minitel network. At that time Minitel is one of the greatest technical equipment for whole world because there’s no internet at that time.

In 2012 June 30^th is the last day of Minitel and the owners of Minitel decided to shutdown this network. Some reasons for this decision is,

• Further extension for Minitel is really hard
• Internet more flexible than Minitel
• The users count getting lower and lower

GPS Controlled Drones for PirateBay Servers to Protect from SOPA

As you all know about Torrent definitely you would know about “ThePirateBay”. “ThePirateBay.se” is the biggest Bit Torrent website. Most of you would definitely downloaded songs, films, games, software through Piratebay for sure. As the new American government act SOPA – (Stop Online Piracy Act) the free file sharing sites like megaupload banned and took the owner to the custody. Most of the file sharing site shut their sites because of this SOPA. (Still Mediafire is up and running, I don’t know what will happen to them because of this SOPA). 


PirateBay also took some serious actions to protect this SOPA. One is they changed their domain “org” to “se” now you can access to piratebay by type “ThePirateBay.se”. “org”is a top level domain and it belongs to America. 

The biggest action from piratebay is they try to set their servers in GPS controlled drones in the air. As they said with modern radio transmitters we can get over 100Mbps per node up to 50km away. They setup this drones in the air area of their friendly country. This is still with the experiment level but really achievable with modern wireless transmission.

SOPA - Stop Online Piracy Act, Banned Internet?

If you're aware of the current world technical news, you should definitely hear about this SOPA. SOPA defines by "Stop Online Piracy Act”. This is a new Act going to confirm in USA and it can limit the use of internet. If you're in outside USA, you will think that "this is an Act in USA so there's no any harm". You're wrong, this Act will harm to each and every person in the world who use internet.

What is this Act can do? This Act gives the full priority to USA government to control and limit the internet access. Simply what they do is blocking the "DNS access" of particular sites (against the law).

What kind of sites can be block because of this Act?  If the website content contains any unauthorized stuff, site can be block. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and also web hosting provides are in very danger because of this Act. As an example, in facebook, users are publishing various kind of stuffs, that stuffs can be contain some unauthorized things against to that SOPA law, then Facebook is in danger, thou it publish by normal user, the site owner should  responsible for it. 

Site owners will face various problems because of this Act.

As this harmful Act, most of the web content should be remove and also born of new sites reduces because of the SOPA law.

Denis Ritchie Founder of UNIX Operating System and C Programming

Denis Ritchie is one of most unrivalled computer scientist in ever history. Sadly he has passed away recently in 70 years old.  Denis Ritchie is the greatest scientist who found the operating system technology to the world and he is the founder of UNIX operating system (UNIX is the base of every operating system).

He is an American and he developed UNIX operating system for Bell Labs Company where he works at 1975. Denis Ritchie and his group develop UNIX 6 operating system and it commercialized in 1975.

Do you believe that Denis Ritchie is the person who develops “C programming language”? He is the founder of C programming language also. C programming language is the base language of all other languages currently use. So without Denis Ritchie’s these 2 innovations, can you think of any computer work?

In 1980 Microsoft releases a 16 bit OS called “Xenix” for micro computers and it is the base OS for current versions of windows. This “Xenix” operating system is an upgrade of UNIX. So without UNIX no windows.

In 1985 Apple create an OS called “NeXT” and it is the base of MAC OS. This “NeXT” also developed with UNIX. Some of the codes written by Denis Ritchie in 1971 still can be found in the latest versions of MAC OS kernels. So without UNIX no MAC.

In 1987 Andrew S. Tanenbaum developed the MINIX Operating system using UNIX OS. This MINIX kernel upgraded by Linus Torvalds and created the LINUX OS. LINUX kernel use for develop various OS like Ubuntu, Fedora etc. Still UNIX source codes can be found in this Linux kernel.

Famous OSes like WINDOWS, MAC, and LINUX are basically developed with UNIX (Lately found that Chrome OS also use the codes of MINIX).  Now you can understand how big the Denis Ritchie’s innovations are.  

Denis Ritchie born in 1941 Sept 09 at New York and he got PHD from University of Harvard in 1968.  As his contribution to the computer science he awarded the “Turing award” in 1983. “Turing award” called the Nobel Prize for computer science.

Neutrino Speed Broke Light Speed and Einstein Theory of Relativity

Albert Einstein is the most famous scientist ever history. He is also called as the father of modern physics. Einstein’s most famous low is “theory of reality” and one fact of it is “if some particle goes in a speed of light the mass of that particle should be zero”. Then the OPERA scientists have proven their innovation with a group of technical committee and officially published that “Neutrino” is the fastest particle in the universe and it exceed the speed of light.

In this experiment, a beam of Neutrino sends from “Geneva Switzerland” to “Grand Sasso Italy” (Distance 730km). Neutrino beam beats the speed of light with 60 nS (nano Seconds) ahead. If they prove this again with the world community, it will be the end of most of the modern physics equations and theories also Einstein.

This is kind of an old comic kind of technical news to you all. In 1969 July 20 is very important day for humans because Apollo 11 rocket landed the moon with first humans. Still this is considered as the best incident in the history of space exploration. Neil Armstrong is the first person who landed to the moon. But do you know amazingly there’s no any photograph of the first landed human Neil’s foot print. Then what is this?

Cell Phone Cancer Risk and Brain Tumor Causes

This is a famous and most discussed gossip topic that “Can brain tumors caused by using cell phones for longer period?”. Recently starting with Professor “John Boice” and a group of scientists from “Denmark Vanderbilt” university found that “there’s no such an effect that causing Brain Tumors with mobile phones”.

In their experiment they choose 2.8 million random people that uses mobile phones over 15 years. Then separate the people who have brain tumors among this 2.8 million. Then calculate the percentage (X) of brain tumor caused people among mobile phone user more than 15 years. After calculate the percentage(X) compare it with the percentage(Y) of Brain Tumor caused people in whole Denmark (Mobile phone users and not). Final conclusion is,

Percentage Brain Tumor Caused People using mobile phones is less than the Percentage of whole Denmark who got brain tumors (X<Y). I think this is very good news for who have uncertainty about mobile phones with tumors and long time mobile phone users.

But this experiment not meant that using a mobile phone for a longer period is a good thing. WHO (World Health Organization) confirmed that Mobile phone is a carcinogenic item. Also when you using a mobile phone, brain’s Glucose concentration increasing.  When there’s a cancer in a brain then also brain’s Glucose concentration increasing. So any one can’t conclude what’s actually happening inside brain with mobile radiations. Cell phones not cause Tumors but cancers.

Global Positioning System Satellites Information (GPS)

Global Positioning system simply GPS is very popular technology system that uses to find the location where we are or else locate some location in earth. In early days this GPS technology used for wars. Actually as a result of an experiment (US Navy and US Air force together did thing experiment in 1960) GPS (Global Positioning system) technology opens to the world. After sometimes this technology popular among the ordinary people, now the times GPS Navigation Units are in cars, mobile even wrist watches. The question is how this GPS works? How it locate our location?

GPS technology is based on satellite technology. There are 24 satellites in the air to work with this GPS system. Each location of the earth is covered by minimum 4 satellites. In that way these 24 satellites are rotating around earth. Normally these satellites are located in 20000Km ahead from earth and each and every time these satellites are sharing their information with GPS controlling Stations (GPS controlling Stations is controlling by US Air Force and it ensure that system works properly). Also inside these satellites, there is a special clock called “Atomic Clock” to get the accuracy time in satellite. The important thing is distance between these satellites is never change. Then we look at how it works.

First GPS system starts in the GPS receiver (Things it’s our mobile phone). Next GPS receiver connects with satellites and gets the information (“Location of satellite” and “time in satellite”) from 3 satellites. After get all information we can calculate the location that we are in the earth. Then, by using the 4th satellite the receiver check that the calculated value correct or not. Normally GPS systems are very accurate and maximum error is 5-10m.
